Slow news day

MD Gets Smart

In a rebellious moment, perhaps suffering momentarily from a surfeit of horsepower, our MD has bought himself a SMART - more of a motorised pram than a motor car but he seems happy enough as he buzzes along in his E-type shuttle cock and maintains that it does a lot for improving driver awareness and anticipation - "after all, when a collision with a rabbit might become a 50:50 knock for knock claim, you really can't be too careful".

Jacqueline, our revered and beautiful Vice President has just celebrated her 28th birthday with considerable verve and style - more mortgageable handbags were added to the already impressive collection of fine leather and the weekend of celebration was topped with an all night party at the notorious and splendidly famous Annabelle's night club - life in the fast lane!

Easter Specials

As we draw close to the first major holiday weekend of the year the weather looks to be brightening and the world is filled with good cheer. This morning is simply glorious in Oxfordshire with clear blue skies and only a hint of crispness in the air. Looking from my office window toward the sunlit Berkshire Downs it really does look as if Spring has Sprung and the chances are we are set for a glorious weekend - perhaps the perfect oportunity to take up one of the very special last minute deals on these fabulous supercars - just click on the "last minute offers" button on the left hand side of the home page to see what is available - go for it, treat yourself. Have a great weekend.

AUDI R8

Wow !!

Took the beautiful R8 for a quick spin and found it spontaneous and agile at obeying steering movements, always demonstrating great driving safety. Absolutely loved it.  A real head-turner.

AUDI R8

The First Impression

The R8 is different in all the ways you could possibly wish for. Audi as a brand has grown stronger and stronger over the years, building on all the fine qualities for which their home nation is reknowned - efficiency, engineering and reliability - in fact everything that has lead motoring toward being the bland and tedious exercise that it can so often be today.

Motoring should be about raw excitement, fun, thrills and the sheer joy of living life near the edge but despite producing an endless stream of efficient and quick cars the concept of fun, style and jaw dropping power has eluded this manufacturer entirely since the early 1980s when heroes like Stig Blomquist steered the fire breathing, red blooded Quattros to a string of rally championships around the globe.

The spectacular rally bred quattro was the car that put Audi on the map but even as it passed the quattro badge on to the next breed, the spirit had been lost.

Now though - the spirit is back - someone in the Audi camp has re-discovered the blueprint for real motoring - the R8 is spectacular in every regard - it is undoubtedly a true head turner with its low, seductive stealth fighter looks and that deep vibrant rumble of the V8 on start up leaves no one in any doubt that this car means business.

The cabin is both exciting and comfortable with more ways to change gear than you can imagine but where this car comes alive is on the open road - not some drab three lane nose to tail traffic jam of a motorway but a fabulous sweeping A road winding its way through the Cotswolds - its ground hugging low stance gives you incredible grip and as you begin to 'press on' a little, the combination of acceleration and noise will leave you with an indelible smile.

For the time being at least - the word 'bland' appears to have been banished from the Audi vocabulary!

The Porsche 997 Turbo

Dominic, the first man to enjoy our new Porsche 997 Turbo, brought it back on Monday morning declaring it to be "without a shadow of a doubt, the finest car I've ever driven. I think I may have to buy one!"

Our other recent addition to the fleet had a similarly successful weekend - due to bring it back on Monday morning the hirer of our new Audi R8 R-Tonic rang soon after breakfast to ask if he could hang onto the car for another couple of days. I'm just having too much fun!

With the exception of the enthusiastic remarks of the first hirer, very little has yet been said about the splendid new Porsche 997 Turbo. Perhaps this is partially because it has been so popular I hadn't had a chance to sit in it before this afternoon but as another blustery afternoon passed all too quickly I found myself with little more than a few minutes to get the post to the local post office. I find myself casting an eye round the garage for the most sure footed means of transport for the task - Ferraris and Lamborghinis are all very well but just a tad showy for the village shopping run - the Bentleys might be perfect but rather like a 'Murray' one feels a Bentley shouldn't be hurried and time is ticking by. Then I spy the 997 lurking near the door waiting for a wash - absolutely perfect and a chance to try the beast.

The Porsche 911 whine is familiar and rather as expected the massive tyres soak up the rumble bumps with ease as we coast off the business park at a modest 24mph - finally we reach the open road and a chance to open her up - a short squirt sees us top almost 56mph before a dab on the wonderfully powerful ceramic brakes checks our progress after the 176 yard dash, ready for the tricky turn onto the High Street. The car remains calm and serene at this modest pace and nimbly side steps poorly parked cars and tottering bicycles as we make our way to the post. Mission accomplished in 2min 17seconds - hardly the workout this glorious car deserves so we cruise on out of the village with that superb pent up whine of the Flat 6 3.6litre twin turbo engine making it very clear that it cannot wait to unleash more of its vast potential. The promise of all that power and the seductive engine note prove too strong a draw, even for a modest driver such as myself, and as we leave the village behind and head for the open countryside the throttle opens and so much happens it is almost more than you can comprehend - the whine of the engine reaches a magnificent crescendo, any amount of 'g' forces contrive to disfigure your face, your vision blurs, your mind races and you experience acceleration that would be better suited to a jet fighter. This is a drive that will leave you grinning inanely from ear to ear and beyond.

Whilst I have misgivings about the tedious reliability and efficiency of many teutonic automotive offerings I have to confess that this is the second supercar of German origins that I have driven in the last few days and I can forgive them both for their slightly dull reliability and quality of engineering because in all honesty both are truly immense fun.
